Decoration planning
Decoration quotes are only comparable when every quote prices the same surfaces, preparation and paint system. Use the checklist below to define the job, then price it as part of a wider renovation.
Define the job before you ask for prices
- List every room and every surface: walls, ceilings, woodwork, radiators, doors and any external elements.
- Separate preparation (filling, sanding, stain blocking, repairs to plaster) from the finish coats.
- Confirm the paint system, number of coats and sheen level for each surface.
- Say whether new plaster needs a mist coat and who supplies the paint.
- Record colour names, manufacturer and finish so later repairs can be matched.
- Ask every decorator to price the same list, then compare totals.
