Bathroom renovation costs: build a complete budget
A bathroom budget needs more than the suite price. Separate products, installation, preparation and work outside the room, then record what each written quote includes.
How much will your bathroom renovation cost?
There is no reliable single price for an unspecified bathroom. Room size, layout changes, product choices, existing conditions and location all affect what needs pricing. A replacement within the existing layout and a new wet room are different briefs. Use an early estimate as a planning range, then obtain site-specific written quotations.
Write down whether you are keeping the bath, shower, basin and WC positions. Identify the exact products you want and who supplies them. Ask the installer to identify any assumptions about concealed conditions, access and preparation before treating a total as complete.

Avoid counting an allowance twice
Fictional arithmetic, not market prices: an £8,000 installation offer already includes a £1,000 tile allowance. Replacing that allowance with a confirmed £1,400 tile selection adds £400, not £1,400, if everything else remains unchanged. Ask for a revised quote: different tiles may also change fitting work.

Questions for your installer
- Are all suppliers and installers pricing the same layout and product list?
- Which concealed conditions could change the price, and how will changes be agreed?
- Who supplies small fittings, collects deliveries and deals with damaged products?
- What are the payment stages, expected programme, quote validity and arrangements for defects?
- What technical checks and approvals need confirming for this property?
