What drives the cost
- Units and doors. Flat-pack and rigid budget ranges cost a fraction of solid timber or bespoke doors.
- Worktops. Laminate is cheapest; quartz, granite and solid timber can add several thousand pounds.
- Appliances. Integrated, range cookers and premium brands move the total more than most people expect.
- Layout changes. Moving the sink, hob or gas supply adds plumbing, electrics and making good.
- Size. An island or a kitchen-diner can need a third more units and worktop than a typical galley.
Planning, regulations and VAT
A like-for-like kitchen replacement needs no planning permission or building regulations approval. New electrical circuits must be installed by a registered electrician or notified to building control, and any gas work must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
